Its election season...dammit all
This is going to be a rant. If you don't like rants please stop reading!!!
As the November elections draw near we find ourselves in an off-year. There are no national elections going on, although you may not realize that if you're in an early primary state. In my area its mainly local offices. Now living in a rural/suburb county in Virginia you wouldn't think there would be that many people who want to run a major campaign just to become a court clerk or a Director of the Soil and Water Conservation commission. But we've got two people running for the court clerk position and three running for the Soil and Water Conservation job. On top of that we've got FOUR people running for Sheriff!!! Now I'm not a complete idiot, but what makes me qualified to decide who would be the best Sheriff? Hell, I don't even know what exactly the Court Clerk does. How am I suppose to determine who is best qualified for the job? Shouldn't these things be determined through an interview process where someone who is familiar with the requirments of the job can ask each candidate questions and make a decision on qualifications?
One of the people who is running for Sheriff is the son of the former sheriff. Exact same name, just Jr. instead of Sr. Now how many votes is he going to get not because he is the best candidate, but because people just recognized the name and didn't realize the father was retiring? I've voted in every election since I moved into my house seven years ago, including a number of primaries. But I'm seriously thinking of sitting this one out because I just have no idea what issues I'm even suppose to be concerned about with a candidate running for court clerk.
This just annoys me as much as Virginia's penchant for adding Amendments to their State Constitution ever few years. But more on that in a future rant. Until then…stay Centered.
